Unsurprisingly, operating a washing machine is more difficult. They are cumbersome, heavy and difficult to move. Most washers weigh between 70 and 90kg, and some of the larger models can reach up to 100kg. They must be handled carefully during the entire move as they are fragile and have many operating parts.

To move your washing machine, it’s best to hire experienced removalists in Brisbane, but if you decide to do it yourself, here’s a step-by-step guide to simplifying the process.

Best Way to run Washing Machine on your own

Step 1: Empty and Thoroughly Clean the Inside of Your Washing Machine

It’s a good idea to clean the washing machine before moving it. Running an empty wash on the hottest cycle is the best way to clean your washing machine. Use a cleaning agent such as bleach or white vinegar in place of your regular washing powder or detergent. This will guarantee thorough cleaning. Open the hatch after the cycle is finished and leave your machine out to dry for 24 hours.

Step 2: Disconnection

The hot and cold water valves connected to the machine should be turned off. Some later versions of washing machines only add a cold water valve. Carefully disconnect the water supply hose from the appliance, let all the water drain from it into a bucket or sink, and then disconnect the line from the water valve.

Unplug the washing machine from the power outlet after turning the switch off. To keep the power cord secure, tape it to the washing machine.

Drain the machine’s drain hose, then allow the water to drain into a bucket or sink. Once all the water has drained, remove the hose from the end of the drain.

To avoid losing them while moving, it is recommended that you store the water supply and drain hoses inside the washing drum.

Step 3: Disconnect the valves and unhook the water supply hose

After completing step 2 you can now free the water supply hose from the outer valve. These valves are often attached to the wall behind your machine. Before removing the valves connected to your machine, be careful to disconnect the valves from the wall. You will need to turn the hose fitting counterclockwise in both cases. If the fitting is too tight, a set of slip-joint pliers will do the job.

When you take the hose apart you may find some residual water that hasn’t completely drained out. So, be sure to have a bucket or some absorbent material on hand.

Step 4: Protect the Drum

Your washing machine’s suspension system can take some damage when it is moved. Stabilize the drum of the washing machine to prevent damage to the suspension and limit its excessive movement during movement.

To stabilize the drum on front-loading washers, you’ll need to install transit bolts on the back of the appliance. Transit bolts should have been included when you purchased your washer. If you don’t already have transit bolts, ask the washer manufacturer what they recommend so you can get replacement bolts before move-in day.

Step 5: Install Transit Bolts on Washing Machine

Moving your washing machine safely requires the use of transit bolts for machines. A washing machine is a sophisticated machine with many working parts. Your washing machine’s drum suspension is especially prone to damage if the washing machine’s transit bolts are not firmly in place. Installing transit bolts on your washing machine will stabilize the drum and prevent damage to the suspension and other parts.

Step 6: Verify and test

Be careful to remove the transit bolts and anything held inside the drum of your machine after it has been successfully moved to its new abode. It is also a recommended practice to run an empty test cycle after relocating to make sure your washer is working properly.
