The Chicco KeyFit 30 is a well-designed and well-built infant car seat. It’s why it’s been on the Recommended Seat list for more than a decade.
As part of a “travel package”, the original KeyFit (aka KeyFit 22), is often sold with a stroller. This version in “Encore” has a maximum weight rating of 22 lbs. The KeyFit 30 model can be rated up to 30 pounds.
The KeyFit 30 is approximately 30 inches tall. To create a travel system, the KeyFit 30 can be combined with any compatible Chicco Keyfit stroller (see below). If you are looking for a stroller that is easy to use and has all the great features of a full-featured stroller, the Chicco KeyFit Caddy can be a great choice.
Both the KeyFit 30 and KeyFit 30 use the same base. Additional bases are available for purchase separately if you need additional bases to fit other vehicles.
I quickly and easily removed the cover from my review sample. A KeyFit model with a cold-weather boot is a great choice if you have a fall or winter child.
Chicco KeyFit 30 Review
All KeyFit 30 and KeyFit 30 models include a newborn insert, a support insert for the head, and covers for the harness straps.
For babies between 4-11 lbs, the KeyFit 30 and KeyFit 30 models include a newborn insert. This insert offers additional support and a secure harness for infants who are smaller than 4-11 lbs.
The insert should be removed when the baby is more than 11 pounds. The newborn [body] support cushion may still be removed, but the head support cushion can still be used if needed. You can use the head support pillow until your child requires the top harness slots. The attachments to secure the head support to the seat shell must be threaded through any unused harness slots. The child must attach the head pillow to the harness once they have used the top slots.

Measurements:
Height of the harness slot with a newborn insert (approximately): 7″, 9″, and 11″.
Height of harness slot without newborn insert: 8″, 10, 12, 12″
Child-friendly:
Combining the bottom harness slots with the insert for the newborn allows the KeyFit and KeyFit30 models to accommodate newborns of all sizes and small premature babies. The KF30 model, on the other end of the spectrum, can accommodate many babies until their 1 th birthday or beyond – though there are no guarantees. My youngest son was 29 inches tall by nine months, but he was much larger than average for his age as a baby.

KeyFit Installation Comments:
The KeyFit instruction manual has clear, well-written instructions and lots of diagrams. Both English and Spanish versions of the manual are available.
The KeyFit 30 and KeyFit 30 models can be installed correctly if the instructions are followed carefully. FYI: Only one type of attachment is allowed. You should not use LATCH and a seatbelt to attach the car seat. It is forbidden to use lower LATCH anchors for the middle seating position.
Spring-loaded “foot” adjusts the base to a variety of heights. This allows for a comfortable recline angle in many vehicle seating positions. Place the foot on the base so that the bubble in the level is placed somewhere between the black lines.
Use the vehicle’s shoulder/lap seatbelt. Only thread the shoulder belt section through the lock-offs at the base.
